A World Series win, the 2009 World Series MVP from their team, and the perfect crown for the newly inaugurated Yankees stadium. This year’s World Series may very well be the New york Yankees best season in a very long time.
To celebrate their historic win, the Yankees and New Yorkers will parade and party through the Canyon of Heroes. According to the Daily Contributor, the parade is said to begin on Broadway at Battery Place at 11 a.m. and continue uptown along the Canyon of Heroes to Chambers Street. Then, a ceremonywill be held at City Hall Plaza, where Mayor Michael Bloomberg will present the Bronx Bombers with the Keys to the City.
Securing their 27th World Series title from the Philadelphia Phillies with a score of 7-3 in Game 6 coach Girardi couldn’t be happier.
Hideki Matsui was named the 2009 World Series MVP, but that may turn bittersweet as there are rumors of Matsui retiring from the Yankees. In any case, Matsui feels complete having accomplished so much saying, “It’s awesome,” Matsui said through a translator. “Unbelievable. I’m surprised myself.”
“I guess it’s hard to make a comparison. When I was in Japan, that was the ultimate goal. Being here, winning the World Series, becoming world champions, that’s what you strive for here.”
