Karl Roy, the gifted lead vocalist and composer for bands Kapatid, P.O.T and early in 90′s, Advent Call, passed away early morning today, March 13. The news of his death was announced by his sister Kathryn, through Facebook. His daughter Arianna was present along with members of the family that surrounded him at his home at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife Dena.
In 2008 Karl suffered a series of stroke which paralyzed the right side of his body. Through therapy, the Filipino icon slowly recovered and continued to perform. But even during the height of his career with the funky band P.O.T., Roy had already undergone surgery. I remember watching the band in 70′s Bistro where He would often strum along the line of ribs and stitched breast in between songs.
Hardly can any singer seamlessly integrate the art of performance and entertainment, but Karl was not just any singer, and sadly, he left too soon. Even the weather mourns his death…
