The final score was 124-112, another 2-digit deficit when the Phoenix Suns were beaten once again by the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center last night, the Lakers now lead the Western Conference Finals, two-to-nothing, the Suns will head home for Game 3, hoping to snatch two games there to tie the series. But it smells the end for Steve Nash, for rarely a team in the NBA wins a series after losing the first two games.
The Suns were hopeful, after tying the scores in the third quarter, but the Lakers pulled away in the fourth quarter. There were just too many turnovers from the Suns’ captains.
“We started turning the ball over three straight times,” Suns coach Alvin Gentry said. “They went down and got baskets. We never really got any control after that.”
Jason Richardson led the Suns with 27 points, Grant Hill scored 23 points, performing like the Hill of old. Steve Nash added 11 points and 15 assists and Amare Stoudemire scored 18 points.
“We just got to do a better job,” veteran Suns Grant Hill said. “We got to try to figure it out.”
