According to the The Asbury Park press, a man from Toms River, Jersey named Daniel Bark has been charged on Thursday with the hit and run murder of previous American Idol contestant Alexis Cohen.

Alexis Cohen 25, died from head and torso injuries on July 25, 2009 in Seaside Heights, N.J., after being hit by a vehicle driven by Bark.

At the time, prosecutors say Bark, 24, was trying to escape from the police after a previous car accident. He was arrested the day after and charged with a drunk driving violation.

Bark was charged with aggravated manslaughter, death by auto, eluding police and knowingly fleeing the scene of an accident that resulted in a fatality. He remains jailed on $150,000 bail.

Alexis Cohen auditioned twice on American Idol in seasons 7 and 8.
