With four minutes left in finals match between Spain and Netherlands in the FIFA World Cup 2010, Andres Iniesta Iniesta clinched the winning shot from the corner after receiving the pass from sub Cesc Fabregas.

Netherlands’ loss were partly blamed on the now infamous English referee Howard Webb who, issued fourteen yellow cards, a record number for a World Cup final.

Dirk Kuyt said, “We are angry because we were so close. The referee was slightly more for them than for us. That ultimately cost us the cup.”

Controversial game or not, the Spaniards are on a national fiesta, celebrating their victory. The team were met with a flurry of celebratory events, meetings with the King, the Prime Minister and an open air bus ride around the city’s historic center.

In July 2008 Spain advanced to the top of the FIFA World Rankings for the first time in its history, becoming the sixth nation to top this ranking, and the first who had never won the World Cup prior this.
