All-Star Baseball Legend Rod Carew was honored in the Hispanic Heritage Hall of Fame. He joins another legend, Roberto Clemente. Rod Carew’s career is highlighted with 3,035 hits and a record-breaking average of .328 in batting.

When Rod Carew met Roberto Clemente for the first time, he was struck with awe and disbelief.

According to Carew, he was “living the dream” when he met and played against Clemente in baseball’s 1967 All-Star game in Anaheim. Clemente was his childhood hero. It was five years later that Clemente died in a plane crash while performing a humanitarian act. He was trying to help out the earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Clemente’s body was never recovered. He was then elected the Hall of Fame posthumously, becoming the only Hall of Famer for whom the required five year waiting period was waived.

Both Carew and Clemente are brought together once again on Tuesday when they were enshrines as the 47th and 48th players in the Hispanic Heritage Hall of Fame at baseball’s All-Star Fan-Fest in Anaheim.
