Roblox is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online (MMO) virtual playground and workshop where kids (and the kids at heart) can build almost anything with blocks of various shapes and sizes and share their creations with the Roblox community.

Roblox has a lot of existing playgrounds made by the Roblox community and ranges from shoot-em-ups to tycoon type games. Roblox can only be played online with an Internet Explorer (IE) browser, though. Roblox provides non-IE users with the Roblox Studio download.

The Studio, or Roblox Studio, is a program that Roblox uses to play games, and gives you the ability to create your own games. Using the Studio you can script, build places and test them as well.

While Roblox is free to play, can opt to join the “Builders Club” and pay a monthly fee to gain access to better blocks, more places and other benefits.

Roblox was created by David Baszucki in Silicon Valley, California and is based in Redwood City, California. The name is a portmanteau of the words “Robots” and “Blocks”.
