The last of a series of films about the adventures and struggles of Harry Potter opened to theaters world wide with a magical bang as the second part of Deathly Hallows generated bucks a lot more than Christopher Nolan’s Batman: The Dark Knight.
Deathly Hallows part 2 did even more — set a record. Warner Bros. estimated domestic sales of $168.6 million in three days (July 15-17). The record trampled on the previous best opening weekend of $158.4 million also credited to Warner Bros. for 2008′s Dark Knight – a 10 million gap!
And, according to indiWIRE:
It broke the midnight record for a domestic bow with $43.5M (former champ The Twilight Saga: Eclipse at $30 million), the single stateside opening day with $92.1M (besting Twilight Saga: New Moon‘s $72.7 million), the biggest IMAX bow with $15.5 million (beat Alice In Wonderland‘s $12 million) and the largest three-day haul for a Harry Potter film, out-pegging last November’s Deathly Hallows part 1, which rang up $125 million.
Deathly Hallows is the seventh and final of the Harry Potter novels written by J.K. Rowling.
