Sunday night at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, multi-awarded R&B singer and actress drew in thousands of tweets after performing Love On Top at the MTV Video Music Awards when she unbuttoned her top sequinned purple blazer to reveal her baby bump, as she moved on to rub her tummy through her maternity tuxedo trousers.

“Tonight, I want you to stand up on your feet. I want you to feel the love that’s growing inside of me!” she shouted.

Tweets came in like a school of piranhas in a frenzied feast. Her tummy display had a speed of 8,868 tweets per second.

“Last night (Sunday), at 10:35pm ET, Beyonce’s big MTV #VMA moment gave Twitter a record bump: 8,868 Tweets per second,” Twitter Carolyn Penner posted, err, tweeted.

The 29-year old singer secretly married 41-year old rapper and actor Jay-Z in April of 2008. The couple have been very private about their relationship ever since they got together in 2002.

“We don’t play with our relationship,” the rapper said.
