The athletic 30-year old Venus Williams defeated the tough player from Israel and No. 18 seed, Shahar Peer in straight sets to reach the U.S. Open quarterfinals for the 10th time.

Aside from the match, Williams’ skimpy outfit and underwear drew attention. The tightness of her self-designed dress could have contributed to her opponent’s advantage. In most points the attire would rise up to Venus’ hips, showing her undergarments. Then, before the next point began, Venus would have to pull down the sides of the dress. The routine entertained the announcers in the CBS broadcast booth, who talked about the form-fitting dress for much of the match.

“This outfit was supposed to be about New York. It’s like bursts of fireworks,” the victor said of her latest selection.

Williams is a seven-time Grand Slam champion, with titles at Flushing Meadows in 2000 and 2001. But before going to New York this year, Williams hadn’t competed anywhere since June 29, when she beaten in the Wimbledon quarterfinals by a woman who ranked as low as 82.
