Singaporeans from all walks of life paid their respects to Madam Kwa Geok Choo, wife of Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and mother of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday morning.
Madam Kwa’s wake would be held until Tuesday at the Istana where members of the public turned up before 10am to bid farewell.
A private funeral is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at the Mandai Crematorium.
Madam Kwa played a quiet but influential role in Singapore’s history and President SR Nathan paid tribute to her as well as for being the wife to the republic’s first prime minister and an accomplished lawyer in her own right.
Mr. Nathan said, “We send our deepest condolences to Minister Mentor, whose grief over her passing away must be heavy and immeasurable,” Mr. Nathan said.
