Game 4 was hard fought, and the Phillies were banking on tying the series but the Giants still emerged victors with a 6-5 win.
If the Giants win in Game 5, it would be the club’s fourth World Series appearance since arriving in a ticker-tape parade down Market Street in 1958. The San Francisco Giants are 0-for-3 in the World Series.
This may come as a surprise for most, I am, but the Giants have existed for 55 long years without a World Series title. That’s third on a championship-drought list, behind the Cubs and the Indians (film excluded).
The Phillies are in the rocks, and the manager is getting the blame. Manuel stuck with Blanton a batter to long. After a 20-day layoff, the burly right-hander had little mojo on his fastball and little precision on his curve ball. The Phillies showed some life, resilient to losing, but ultimately the most regrettable decision came back to haunt them.
Phillies’ Game 4 starting pitcher Joe Blanton put it this way, “We didn’t really lose. We just ran out of innings.”
But let’s describe it this way Mr. Blanton…Giants won Game 4 and they’re one game away from the World Series.
