Axe Murderer, aka Wanderlei Silva took on Cung Lee when an injured and fellow Brazilian striker Vitor Belfort wasn’t fit enoug to face the Vietnamese-American kickboxer. Though I am no fan of this particular Silva, I will be the first one to admit I miss seeing his ferocity in action.
Early in the match, Lee unleashed and looked to overpower the MMA Veteran with his unorthodox striking, but Silva was able to take shelter from the storm. Silva returned the favor with combinations that opened a cut on Lee’s eye. The second round saw the come back of the old and now more confident Silva who threw punches, kicks and knees that shook Lee to the ground. After a failed take down, Silva hammered to a controversial technical knockout, the referee may have stopped the fight too early.
“It’s an amazing moment for me,” said Silva who just won his 3rd fight in 9 matches since September 2006. The previous two victories were over Michael Bisping in UFC 110 and Keith Jardin in UFC 84.
Time to retire?
