Team Canada grabs the gold medal in men’s hockey!

Sidney Crosby, the face of Canadian hockey, led his country to an Olympic hockey gold medal as he delivered. Sidney Crosby’s overtime goal gave Canada a 3-2 victory over Team USA in the men’s hockey gold medal game, the final event Sunday at the Olympics.

Crosby scored at 7:40 into overtime to give Canada a dramatic 3-2 win against USA for Canada’s first Olympic hockey gold on its own soil. Canada won the gold medal for the second time in the last three Olympics.

Toews, the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, pushed a rebound shot past U.S. goalie Ryan Miller for the Canadians’ first goal.

Canada held a 1-0 lead after the first period, then Perry scored off an assist from his Anaheim Ducks teammate Ryan Getzlaf with 12:47 left in the second period..

Jonathan Toews’ goal with 7:10 left in the first period and Corey Perry’s second-period goal gave Canada a commanding 2-0 lead before Patrick Kane got the Americans on the board. Patrick Kane pulled the U.S. to 2-1 by scoring off a deflection with 7:16 left in the second period, but Canadian goalie Robert Luongo was very effective turning back the late efforts of the Americans.

Zach Parise, a member of the New Jersey Devils, culminated a frantic comeback by the Americans, who once trailed 2-0. Zach Parise of the U.S. forced overtime by scoring with 24.4 seconds left as the Americans tied Canada 2-2.

With this win, Canada became the first host country to win men’s hockey gold in 30 years.
