Dwight Howard has been a thorn for the roses of the Los Angeles Lakers even though Orlando comes short of conquering the NBA championship year after year.

“Where to? Join forces with the Lakers and get in the list of the most dominating centers (hello Shaq, Chamberlain, Jabbar…) in the West Coast…hmm, Shaq was big with the Magic and less is more right? Oh, how about the Nets…maybe, if the price is right? Ah! Dallas! They were champs last year, and now with ex-Lakers Lamar Odom there, ex-Celtics Glen Davis who beat us last year is there, Vince Carter who like me want that championship badly…with my addition…Miami who?”

These aren’t the words of 26-year old Dwight Howard, Orlando’s prized center. What he said instead is “I love this city, there is no place I’d rather be but Orlando.”

But if the ball-shouldered six-foot eleven is sure to stay, then why didn’t he address the media after Tuesday’s practice? We understand, really.

Magic coach Stan Gundy fesses they’re preparing with the current roster, with or without Howard who has been with Orlando since the start of his NBA career in 2004.

With all the hoopla going on, I’m glad the Suns still has my favorite Grant Hill.
