The Lakers’ drive to win their first nine games for the first time since the 1997-98 season, failed when they met the Nuggets last night at the Pepsi Center. What got written instead is that now, Los Angeles have lost four consecutive regular-season games to the Nuggets. The Lakers have lost eight of 11 games in the Pepsi Center.

It was a similar story when the Lakers won the 2010 trophy against the Celtics, this time, the Lakers are the Celtics’ shoes and Nuggets the Lakers. Los Angeles was leading by 10 early in the fourth when the Nuggets rallied behind Lawson. The point guard scored 11 points in a 16-0 run that gave them a 101-95 lead.

Carmelo Anthony who played lowly against Indiana last Tuesday played big with 32 points and 13 rebounds to rally the Denver Nuggets past Los Angeles 118-112, disappointing their visitors with their first loss of the season.

2010 NBA Finals-MVP Kobe Bryant scored a season-high 34 points and Pau Gasol scored 17 points and 20 rebounds for the Lakers.
