It’s inevitable, and it’s been going on for years now, comparisons between his airness, Michael Jordan and arguably the best player today in the NBA, Kobe Bryant. Bryant was dubbed the next Michael Jordan back in the 90′s and everybody can see why.

Both are of the same height. Bryant has won 5 championships, Jordan 6. KB is a 2 time NBA Finals MVP, MJ got 6. KB won MVP in 2008, MJ won it 5 times. KB has been in the All-Star games 12 times, the Air played in 14. Kobe made it 8 times in the All-NBA First team while Jordan 10 times. KB was included 8 times in the All-Defensive First team while Jordan got in 9 times. Both took the MVP Award three-times in the All-Star games. Bryant dunked to win the Slam Dunk contest once, Jordan, twice…and a few more categories are credited to both amazing athletes.

In some stages and categories, Bryant has a long way to go to catch up to the greatest player who ever played the game. But that would be selfish of Kobe to think of his own and not his team. Maybe he was that, before. We see the 32-year Kobe play so differently since the departure of Shaq. He’s all grown up, wiser. He has has the firepower and the intelligence inside the court.

When MJ was asked what he thinks of his predecessor

“It’s so hard to say,” Jordan told a newspaper. “I think he is always going to be within the conversations of some of the greatest players who’ve played by the time he is finished. Where does he rank among those, if you are talking about positions? If you are talking about guards, I would say he has got to be in the top 10.”
