Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing expert Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will try to avenge his first loss when he debuted inside the UFC’s octagon against a tough and relentless opponent Forrest Griffin who’s made a name for himself for being one of the most exciting fighter to watch.

Rua was favored to win that match with Griffin in UFC 76, but found the Ultimate Figher 1 winner was much more than he expected. He was exhausted as early as the second round, and Griffin dominated the rest. Griffin slipped in a rear-naked choke in the final seconds of the match. Rua left the octagon beaten and with an injured knee.

Now he’s set to avenge that loss like he did with Lyoto Machida.

“I haven’t thought much about (that) fight,” 29-year old Rua said. “It was years ago. My main mistake then was not preparing well enough.”

“The difference is that I’ve been preparing for four months now. The last time I fought Forrest, I didn’t train hard, but now I’m ready. Forrest is a good guy, a great fighter, but I’m very focused on this fight. The strategy is to strike hard early since Forrest is very athletic and very good in all facets.”
