This is a blast from the past with a new goal. Lionel Richie organized a re-recording of a new rendition of an old hit, “We Are the World,” the
song which raised at least $30 million for African humanitarian programs 25 years ago.

Lionel Richie originally co-wrote “We Are the World” with the late King of Pop Michael Jackson. Quincy Jones, the original producer is using the same studio that was used in 1985. The new recording hopes to raise millions of dollars for Haitian earthquake relief.

Dozens of recording artists answered the call of the new recording. Although the complete list is yet to be disclosed. CNN confirms that Usher, Carrie Underwood, Fergie, Jason Mraz, Rob Thomas, Anthony Hamilton, Trey Songz, Sugarland, Julianne Hough, India.Arie, Musiq Soulchild, Justin Bieber, Zac Brown as well as Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand would be joining.

The new “We Are the World” will premiere during the NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Vancouver, Canada, on February 12.
