Those who have hoped for Washington D.C. to host the 2022 World Cup will be very disappointed to know that after a 30-minute delay,  FIFA officials announced that Qatar, and not the United States, will host the 2022 event. Ouch!

Though the U.S. was one of the early favorites to host the sports event, rumor has it that Qatar had already won the hearts of the officials even before the announcement was made. Qatar had given a convincing presentation that won the officials. U.S. also fell behind Australia.

Washington was a possible host city, one of 18 cities if only the United States have won the bid. The other seventeen were, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle and Tampa.

Those who competed for the 2022 World Cup bid are Australia, Japan, Qatar and South Korea. Those bidding on the 2018 games are England, Spain/Portugal, Russia and Belgium/Netherlands.

For the nearer 2018 World Cup, Russia has won the bid. The announcement also took place this morning.
